On "The Abortion":
I do believe that the speaker is having an internal monologue with herself. I see the repetition of the line "Somebody who should have been born is gone" as a reflection of the woman's struggle with guilt after having an abortion. This doesn't necessarily mean that the woman was pressured by a man to make this decision--someone can be fiercely pro-choice, but when they find themselves in the position of having to make such a decision, there are going to be second thoughts.
I will admit that I couldn't make it through even half of the link Jen posted, but something came up in my newsfeed that made me just as angry. I think it's important to share this because some of you had said in the beginning of the semester that women have "basically achieved equality." Ignorance is bliss I suppose, and knowing just how inaccurate that statement is can be debilitatingly depressing. Just because women can hold positions of power doesn't mean that they've won, or that we've won as females. What is the main focus of most of the news stories about female politicians anyway? Their appearance. As a shameless Hillary Clinton enthusiast, I was pretty shaken up by this stuff. Again, check it out at your own risk.
Hillary being heckled by a male chanting "iron my shirt."
Staged or not, the comments on this video alone are enough to justify why we still desperately need feminism.
Disgusting and sexist buttons at a GOP event (what a surprise!) But if this is the worst they can come up with against her, it looks like Hillary's potential run for presidency will be quite a breeze.
I could post more links, but I don't want to preach anymore than I already have. Sexism is still alive and well, ladies! But let's not lose hope. If I'm angry, and you're angry too, this snowballs into a force for change.
