Writings Bodies Quote

In this section there were actually two quotes that really caught my attention. The first was on page 376 and it read, "Women have a right to claim and to settle on their own terms." This simple line could be interpreted in various ways. I felt empowered as I read the sentence because my friends always tell me my standards are too high. This phrase reminded me how important it is to have those standards and to stick to them because I have that right. A close family friend of mine said to me one day on the phone, "Jillian, be picky!" It was so simply put, but that advice has stuck with me.

The second quote was on page 377; "To write sexuality has been to write of loss, regret, desire unfulfilled." I loved this! Although writing about sexuality is very important, especially because it is not a topic our culture is open with, writers often focus on all of the negatives in regards to sexuality. This is probably because that is what sells, but it would be refreshing to read of a satisfying and fulfilling relationship once in a while, rather than the constant disappointment and unhappiness.
