Women and Body Quote

The quote that I chose was on page 376 "'Sexuality is a term of power...and it belongs to the empowered.' she concludes (de Lauretis 13). Which women writers are in a position to celebrate their desire, and which are most subject to sexual exploitation, has been historically and socially determined by race, class, nationality, sexual preference, age, and caste."

This quote is so important to this section of the novel because it is stating who is able to write about and express their sexuality. I believe that anyone, regardless of their race, class, sexual preference, etc. should be able to write about their own experiences. This brings us back to our conversation about being fake and writing about real experiences. Everyone experiences some type of sexuality and if a woman wants to write about her sexuality, she should be able to regardless of her qualities. However, throughout history and society we have always determined who can write about sexuality and who cannot.
